LUCIANO – MASTERMIND OF THE MOB
Salvatore Lucania, known as Lucky Luciano (1897–1962), was an Italian-American mobster who is widely regarded as the architect of modern organized crime in the United States. Born on November 24, 1897, in Lercara Friddi, Sicily, he emigrated to the United States with his family at the age of nine, settling in Manhattan’s Lower East Side.
Luciano became involved in criminal activities at an early age, working his way up through street gangs and eventually becoming a key figure in New York’s criminal underworld. By the 1920s, he was a prominent bootlegger during Prohibition, aligning with key figures like Meyer Lansky and Bugsy Siegel to build a lucrative illicit liquor empire.
